AfterLesson — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 June 2026
AfterLesson is made by Borderless Labs ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your
information. The short version: your students' data stays on your phone.
What we store about you
Nothing on our servers. AfterLesson has no accounts and no sign-in. Everything you enter —
your name and studio name, your roster (student name, instrument, and any optional parent name or
contact you add), and your recap history — is stored only in a local database on your device.
We never receive or keep a copy.
What leaves your device, and when
The only time information leaves your phone is the moment you generate a recap. To write the
message, AfterLesson sends the lesson details you entered — the student's first name, instrument,
pieces, focus, homework, the chosen tone, the parent's first name if you added one, and (for
continuity) the previous recap's text — to our backend, which forwards them to **Google's Gemini
API** to generate the recap text and returns it to your phone.
- This request is transient. Our backend is stateless: it does not store the content of
your lesson notes or the generated recap.
- Your private note ("never sent") is kept on your device for your eyes only and is never
transmitted.
- Google processes the request under its API terms. We use a paid tier configured so that prompts
are not used to train Google's models.
Sending recaps
When you tap Send, AfterLesson hands the text to your phone's share sheet. You choose the app
(WhatsApp, Messages, email, …) and send it yourself, from your own account. We are not involved in,
and do not see, the messages you send.
Anonymous product analytics
To understand whether the app is useful (for example, how often teachers send recaps), the app sends
content-free events to our backend — an event name like "recap sent", a random per-install ID
(not tied to you or your students), and small non-identifying details (e.g. which tone). It also
reports the text of an unexpected app error so we can fix crashes. These pings never include
recap content, student names, parent names, or contacts.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad/tracking SDKs, no cross-app profiling.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
- No background collection — the app only does something when you do.
Students' information
You may enter students' first names and lesson details. That information is processed **on your
device** and only sent — transiently, to generate a recap — as described above. You are responsible
for having any consent your local rules require to record lesson details about a student. Because
nothing is stored on our servers, the data is under your control on your device.
Keeping, and deleting, your data
Your data lives on your device. Deleting the app removes all of it. A normal device backup
(iCloud / Google) may include the app's local data so it can move to a new phone — that backup is
governed by Apple's or Google's policies, not ours.
Subscriptions
AfterLesson offers a paid subscription, sold through the App Store / Google Play. We use
RevenueCat to manage subscription status across platforms. RevenueCat receives a random
app-user ID and your purchase/receipt info from the store so the app knows whether you're
subscribed — it does not receive your name or any student data, and we never see your card
details (Apple or Google process the payment). You manage or cancel the subscription in your
store account settings.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and the version published with the app.
